Around 50,000 children were adopted from Guatemala to the United States, Europe, Israel, New Zealand, Canada and Australia before international adoption from Guatemala was closed in 2008.

Services for Adoptees
The Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides two services for Guatemalan adoptees. The first is a free birth family search through the National Council of Adoptions and the second is access to our online records at RENAP.
Our organization successfully lobbied the Guatemala government for these services and met with President Alejandro Giammattei in January 2021 to request Presidential approval for this request. The President approved the request and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs completed the work on the services in May 2021.
